Post  peanutbutter on Fri Jul 30, 2010 2:49 pm

Richard Hall has been appointed as the new area managing director of Arriva Scotland West, responsible for 178 buses, over 430 staff and 17 million passenger journeys a year.

Building relationships
A key part of Richard’s job is building local relationships with key stakeholders and customers in Scotland, and working on the planned introduction of statutory quality partnerships (SQPs) in both Paisley and Glasgow.

Experienced
Richard, aged 38, has spent over 15 years in the transport industry and was most recently at Veolia Transport UK where he was operations director responsible for seven separate business units across South and Mid Wales. He has also held positions with Stagecoach, Weavaway and Bakers Dolphin Coach Travel.

Determination
He reports to Jonathan May, regional managing director for Arriva North East and Arriva Scotland West. Jonathan May said: “Richard is a welcome addition, strengthening our management team. He has a reputation for his commitment, strong work ethic and determination to deliver the highest possible standards.”

Invested heavily
Arriva has invested heavily into its Scottish bus network recently which has involved a complete review of local services to reflect the public’s needs and preferences. Arriva Scotland West has also been working with Renfrewshire Council to provide a Youth Bus and more recently a Gym Bus, providing free leisure facilities for teenagers.

Safety, value and reliability
Commenting on his new position, Richard said: “More than ever before, our business focus is on providing safe, good value and reliable services that meet the needs of local people. A critical part of this will be working with the Strathclyde Partnership for Transport and all the Local Authorities and key partners across the region. This will help ensure our services are relevant to the communities they serve, timely and well used.”

Outdoors
Based at the company’s Inchinnan depot Richard is planning to live in Glasgow and in his spare time, he enjoys the outdoors, particularly mountain biking, skiing, football and walking.
